Parabens: Parabens are preservatives that increase a products shelf life. Almost every skin care product seems to have this. Parabens can cause breast cancer since they can mimic the hormone estrogen and get easily absorbed into our blood stream. According to a study conducted by the Journal of Applied Toxicology, low dose levels of parabens were found in all the 40 samples of breast tissue that were taken from recent mastectomies. The most common types of parabens are Methylparaben and propylparaben and are found in lotions, deodorants, creams, and ointments.
Aluminum: Yes, your skincare product can contain aluminum. Aluminum is found mostly in deodorants and antiperspirants. This metal too mimics estrogen and gets easily absorbed by the skin. Aluminum is also a neurotoxin and since it is used so close to the breast, it greatly increases the risk of breast cancer.
Ceteareth-20: Ceteareth-20 is a very common ingredient used in skin care products. You will find it mainly in emollients, moisturizers, cleansers, conditioners, exfoliants and acne creams amongst others. This chemical ingredient is contaminated with I,4-dioxane and Ethylene Oxide. Ethylene Oxide allows the skin emollient to spread uniformly and easily on the skins surface and also helps in binding all the other product ingredients together. Both these chemicals are carcinogenic. especially Ethylene Oxide, which is a known breast carcinogen.
